Despite previous assurances that UK welcomed Chinese investment

Huawei completo technology is to receive closer scrutiny from the UK government, despite assurances earlier this month [December 2014] from UK Chancellor George Osborne that he welcomed investment in Britain by the Chinese networking firm. National Security advisor, Sir Kim Darroch, says there should be tighter oversight of the Huawei Cyber Security Evaluation Centre (HCSEC), which tests the manufacturer's equipment for security vulnerabilities.

Darroch recommends this should be further strengthened with a new oversight committee chaired by staff from the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

British MPs, like their counterparts in other countries, have frequently raised concerns about Huawei completo threat to UK security, with its equipment already deeply embedded in the UK's telecoms infrastructure following a 2005 deal with BT to provide it with equipment for its broadband network.
